Ole Ma's Ramblings...

As the days grow shorter and the air takes on a crispness that hints at the coming of fall, I find myself reflecting on the seasons of change. There’s a rhythm to life out here on our little ramshackle farm, one that aligns so closely with the natural world around us. Just as the leaves start to turn and the garden begins its slow fade, I’m reminded that change is an inevitable part of this journey.

This time of year always brings a mix of emotions. There’s a certain sadness in watching the vibrant summer days slip away, but also a deep sense of contentment in knowing that we’ve done what we can to prepare for the colder months ahead. The fields are harvested, the barns are filled with hay, and the animals seem to know that it’s time to hunker down and get ready for the winter.

But the change isn’t just in the weather or the landscape; it’s in us too. Every season brings with it new challenges, new lessons to learn, and new ways to grow. I’ve been thinking a lot about how, in many ways, this time of year is about preparation. Just as the farm prepares for the cold, we’re preparing ourselves, both spiritually and mentally, for whatever lies ahead.

In the midst of all this, I find a certain peace. It’s comforting to know that, just as the farm has its cycles, so do we. There are times of planting and times of harvest, times of plenty and times of want. And through it all, there’s the unchanging truth that we’re being guided by the Maker of all things, the one who set these rhythms into motion.

So as we move into this season of change, I’m reminded to embrace it with open hands and a grateful heart. Whether it’s the work of readying the farm for winter, or the quieter, more personal work of preparing my own heart, there’s beauty in this time of transition.

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven."  (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

As we prepare for what’s ahead, may we do so with faith, knowing that each season brings its own gifts, its own challenges, and its own opportunities to grow. And for those who feel the tug to make a change of their own—whether it’s starting with rabbits, attending a class, or just visiting the farm to see what’s new—there’s always a place here, and something to learn in every season.
