Ole Ma's Ramblings...
Sitting here under the gazebo as I write, I’m marveling or something at just how far it’s come. What started as an idea so many months ago, sitting in the sunshine with a table full of friends, has now become a reality – a reality we never thought possible.
From cutting the giant posts from trees here at the farm and hauling the rocks one load at a time from all corners of the property to now reaching the final step of completing the roof, every stage has been a labor of love. We’re using rawhide leather from our own supply of hides, tanning them ourselves. This involves the backbreaking work of scraping the hides, removing all the bits of flesh, and meticulously going through the tanning process. It's been a journey filled with blood, sweat, and tears, but the reward of seeing our vision come to fruition with all-natural materials is beyond satisfying.
"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." This project has truly been a showing of God's provision as each phase of construction passed. We still have yet to purchase a single building material, with the exception of fencing staples. And really, we don't count those because around here we go thru them by the literal case. All the other things though, God has given us abundantly. When we were running out of poles along came a neighbor needing help thinning trees, when that pile dwindled a friend began his land clearing project. And so it went, little by little God has truly supplied all our need.
Looking forward to gathering with friends under this amazing roof fills this Ole Ma with a gratification that is nearly impossible to describe. Sunday, even with the gazebo unfinished, gave us a glimpse of the joyous gatherings to come while we hosted a great cheese class filled with wonderful folks. There’s a special kind of warmth in sharing our space with friends and after the class several stayed as we lit a fire and sat back to watch life and relationship unfold.
We just can’t wait to welcome you all to our farm, to share in the humble beauty and the blessings of this little ramshackle farm. Your support and presence here make every bit of our efforts worthwhile- whether it's our labor with the animals on the hard days or toiling away at the gazebo. It's you guys that make it possible, and allow us this opportunity to be your farmers. And the gratitude washes over us time and time again, refreshing us and flooding us with hope that we really just might make a go of this thing called farming after all.
We look forward to seeing you soon, whether you’re stopping by the farm stand or coming to one of our events. We like to say if you come as a stranger, you leave as a friend; if you come as a friend, you'll leave as family. Each visit adds a new chapter to our shared story, and we can’t wait to see what memories we’ll create together.
