From the land
Can you introduce yourself, and your family and share a bit about your background?
We're Hannah Rosenberg and Stephanie Palmer, best friends that homestead with our families. We met a few years ago at a farmers' market, and our families quickly became friends.
We both wanted to find a way to work off our land, have more time with our kids, and homestead full time. We quickly realized we could do that together if we combined our efforts. Together we raise dairy goats, bees, and pigs and have gardens full of flowers and herbs.
Can you tell us about your business?
Our soap company has just opened for business. Our website is brand new, and we just started taking orders this week. Yay! We have a simple vision; handcrafting cold processed soap made of natural ingredients from the land. Our goal is to source most of these ingredients from our homesteads.
What inspired you to pursue this path?
We were inspired to do this when Hannah brought home her first goat. You know him as Margarita, and we call him Billy. One goat turned into many, not only for Hannah but for Stephanie as well. We needed to find a way to use up all the extra goat's milk, so we decided to start soapmaking together. The more we did it the more we wanted it to not just be a hobby.
We know that there are many natural soap makers out there, but what sets us apart is that our ingredients are primarily sourced from our homesteads, where we know how it was grown and harvested. Anything we don't have in our backyard is promised to be naturally from the land and of the highest quality.
Can you share any challenges you've faced and how you overcame them?
We've had many challenges and have had some big learning curves while learning to make soap. Every failed batch had a story, and it was our job to figure out how to fix it. Over time, we created a soap that we can't wait to share.
What benefits do you think sustainable farming and homesteading bring to individuals and communities?
It's the best! We think it is so important for people to know where their food and skin products come from. The grocery stores don't give you that option. It is up to the local farmers and homesteaders to help their community to have safer and healthier options for their families.
How do you educate and engage your community in sustainable practices?
We want to educate our community on the importance of natural skincare, to help them get away from harmful chemicals in today's soaps.
Can you share any exciting projects or developments you're working on that our readers should be on the lookout for?
We are excited about our business launch! It's been years in the making, and we would like to thank them for their support.
How do you see the future of sustainable farming and homesteading, and what role do you see yourself playing in it?
We see its growth, a higher demand, and people wanting to know where their products are coming from. We're excited to be a part of this growth. Also, teaching the next generation to grow their own food and encourage them to learn new skills.
